Manchester United frontman Cristiano Ronaldo 'doesn't want to be at Old Trafford anymore' and he is expected to seal his departure ahead of Thursday's 11pm deadline, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Ronaldo only returned to the Red Devils 12 months ago, but it looks as though his second spell in the red half of Manchester will be short-lived.

What's the latest news involving Ronaldo?

It emerged last month that Ronaldo is desperate to leave Manchester United as he wants to compete in this season's Champions League.

According to Sky Sports, super agent Jorge Mendes has approached Napoli over a potential switch to the Serie A giants.

The report suggests Mendes has put forward a proposal which would see the 189-cap Portugal international head to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium and Manchester United buy the Italian outfit's Victor Osimhen.

It is understood that Ronaldo is open to joining Napoli, but a move to one of his current employers' Premier League rivals is also a possibility.

Mendes has reportedly returned to Chelsea, having previously held a meeting with Blues owner Todd Boehly, to investigate whether a switch to Stamford Bridge is a possibility.

What has Dean Jones said about Ronaldo?

Jones understands that Ronaldo is willing to swap Manchester United for Napoli, while moves to Sporting and Ajax have also been explored.

The journalist is expecting the former Real Madrid man to seal his departure from Old Trafford ahead of the transfer window slamming shut.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "Ronaldo is open to joining Napoli, so if that's the make-way that ends up being put forward, then they'll be all for it.

"We'll have to wait and see what happens with this Ronaldo exit. Obviously, Jorge Mendes is working overtime at the moment to get him out of United.

"Ronaldo doesn't want to be there anymore. He's looked at anything he possibly can - whether that's Napoli, Sporting, Ajax, whatever.

"He is desperately trying to find him a club somewhere else and you still have to imagine that Ronaldo will be gone by the deadline."

Should Manchester United sanction Ronaldo's departure?

Ronaldo may have scored 142 goals over the course of his two spells on Manchester United's books and be a five-time Ballon d'Or winner, but it is clear that he does not want to be at Old Trafford any longer.

The 37-year-old's last start came in the 4-0 defeat at Brentford earlier this month and the Red Devils have picked up back-to-back wins since he was dropped to the bench.

Ronaldo is currently pocketing £480,000-per-week, so Manchester United would be wise to get him off the wage bill if he is not at the forefront of boss Erik ten Hag's plans.
