Manchester United are on the verge of signing Antony.

The Red Devils have agreed to pay Ajax £85m for the Brazilian forward, per BBC Sport.

Antony is due to arrive in Manchester to complete a medical this week.

The 22-year-old is set to become United's fifth summer arrival. Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen have all already completed moves to the club.

His arrival makes United's games against Liverpool even more interesting.

That's because Antony has history of clashing with the Reds' star striker, Darwin Nunez.

In February 2022, the two players came to blows in the Champions League last-16 first leg tie between Benfica and Ajax.

The two players tussled for the ball in Benfica's half with the match locked at 2-2 in the 86th minute.

They squared up to each other and Nunez fell to the ground in pain after a 'headbutt' from the Brazilian.

Antony was subsequently given a yellow card.

The two made up, though, as they embraced following the scuffle. Watch the moment below...

Despite their embrace, it seems Antony and Nunez aren't the best of friends.

Liverpool and United are set to play each other at least one more time this season: On March 4 when they meet at Anfield.

We could well see the two players clash on the pitch once again.

United tried desperately to sign Antony. They had a number of bids rejected by Ajax before the two parties finally struck a deal.

The Red Devils may have former player, Edwin van der Sar, to thank for helping facilitate the deal.

The Dutchman, CEO of Ajax, played a 'big part' in the move, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Romano said, per Sports Illustrated: “Edwin van der Sar really helped on the Ajax side and was always calm and relaxed to find the best solution.

“John Murtough did an excellent job to get the Antony deal over the line, but Edwin van der Sar also had a big part – he remained calm and relaxed as the two clubs found the best solution.”

Should a deal go through in time, Antony could make his debut when United travel to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City on Thursday evening.
