Carlos Sainz secured another podium in his Ferrari as Formula One returned from the summer break at Spa.
The iconic circuit was under threat of being axed from the calendar, but thankfully common sense prevailed and we will be returning to Spa next season.
However, the latest edition of the Belgian Grand Prix was rather quiet despite offering so much with the mixed up grid following a string of grid penalties.
Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso collided on the opening lap, with the Brit unable to continue due to the damage caused. He parked his W13 up trackside, leading to a Safety Car being deployed.
That helped the likes of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc to make up ground much easier after their penalties, removing some potential drama.
It was the same old story for the Scuderia, with issues plaguing them all weekend despite Sainz starting from pole.
Their weekend was summed up when they pitted Leclerc from fifth for soft tyres to take the fastest lap award, before he then got into a scrap with Alonso and missed out on the quickest time, whilst then dropping to sixth via a time penalty for speeding in the pitlane.
Then, to really twist the knife, Verstappen got the fastest lap to further his championship lead, it would take a disaster from Red Bull to lose it from here!
Despite all the disappointment, Sainz was able to finish third and join the two Red Bull men on the podium, although his team down below were clearly disappointed with the whole weekend and appeared to be short in number in the post-race celebrations.
Fans were fuming with the team on social media, slamming them with tweets such as: “Doesn’t sit right with me how this team is not there to join Carlos as he stood on the podium… And this is not the first time either.”
“So ashamed & embarrassed of this team.”
“A pathetic team, nothing more.”
“Our best driver doesn’t get any support… We’re embarrassing.”
“That team doesn’t deserve anything, they always do this to Carlos.”
“He deserves so much better.”
“He looks so sad it hurts me."
It certainly isn’t nice to see Sainz looking so unenthused after a great achievement, despite a disappointing day on the pit wall once again, you still should be celebrating the successes you have, it’s just yet another example of a huge error from the Scuderia who are outdoing themselves on a race-by-race basis it seems at the moment!
