Red Bull boss Christian Horner has jokingly 'thanked' Toto Wolff for the introduction of the Technical Directive the FIA introduced at the Belgian GP.

After a lot of issues with bouncing and porpoising at the start of this season, the FIA opted to intervene and bring in new regulations and scrutiny over ride height and plank wear, in a bid to try and lessen the impact on drivers' heads, which were bobbing along pretty frantically at high speed in some of the cars.

Indeed, Mercedes were suffering a fair deal with their car and so were naturally pleased when the directive was announced, whilst Red Bull, who were having fewer issues, were concerned that the rule change might impact their advantage up at the front of the grid.

Based on Spa, though, there appears to be no need for such worry with them dominating the weekend, even with Max Verstappen serving grid penalties for engine component changes.

Indeed, Horner couldn't resist, on the back of the result, sending a cheeky jibe Toto Wolff's way, given how vocal the Austrian had been about bouncing:

"On the face of it I’d probably have to thank Toto for the TD!"

"In all seriousness, I think this circuit has played to our strengths. We have a very efficient car, we’ve found a very good setup and Max has just been in phenomenal form the very first lap in first practice.

"Obviously, strategically we chose to take the penalty here and 14th became 13th technically as the starting point with everybody else.

"But of course Max still had to navigate his way through the pack and he did that very efficiently over the first couple of laps, so he hit the front far quicker than we could have ever expected and the soft tyre seemed to work for him as well in that stint.

"Thereafter the pace we had with Max and Checo was enough that he got past Carlos and bring home one of the most dominant performances that we’ve had as a team since either 2010 or 2013."

In fairness, the FIA brought the new TD in to better the safety of the drivers and that must always take precedence over anything else.

Red Bull seem to be getting on fine with the new regulations, too, and will hope to keep that up at Zandvoort this weekend.
