The central midfielder spent last season on loan with Patrick Vieira’s side, but it appears he could head back to south London before Thursday’s 11pm transfer deadline.
What’s the latest news involving Gallagher?
According to The Times, Palace have launched a £27million bid to seal Gallagher’s permanent return to Selhurst Park.
The report suggests the Eagles have intensified their efforts to sign the four-cap England international, who has a close relationship with Vieira.
Vieira refused to comment on the links to Gallagher during his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Brentford tomorrow, although the Frenchman admitted he is ‘short of numbers’ and requires reinforcements.
Gallagher scored eight goals and registered a further five assists during a hugely successful loan spell with Palace last season.
Although he has started Chelsea’s last two fixtures, the 22-year-old was sent off inside the opening half an hour of their 2-1 win over Leicester City at the weekend.
What has Ben Jacobs said about Gallagher?
Jacobs understands that Palace have tabled a bid for Gallagher which falls just shy of the £30million mark.
However, the journalist has warned that it may be difficult for the Eagles to secure a reunion unless the Chelsea star agitates for a move away from Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT on Monday, Jacobs said: “There is lots of interest in Gallagher. Palace have made an offer for just under £30million and Everton have been tracking him as well.
“I think it’s going to be very difficult to get Conor Gallagher on a permanent deal unless the player actually pushes for it.”
Are Crystal Palace facing stiff competition for Gallagher’s signature?
A move to Everton could be in the offing as it is understood that Chelsea have offered Gallagher and Armando Broja to the Toffees, along with £25million, for Anthony Gordon.
But the battle for the former West Bromwich Albion loanee does not end there as Newcastle United have reportedly made Gallagher their number one target ahead of the transfer window slamming shut.
West Ham United boss David Moyes is another admirer and keen to negotiate a season-long loan to the London Stadium.
It is clear that Vieira, who was appointed as Palace’s manager last year, has a fight on his hands as he looks to get a deal for Gallagher over the line.
