Man Utd: £85.4m star would be 'unbelievable signing' at Old Trafford

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag applauds the fans

Manchester United can make an “unbelievable signing” by bringing in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, believes transfer insider Dean Jones.

There has been talk about Napoli being interested in a deal that would see them get money and Cristiano Ronaldo in exchange for Osimhen, and while Jones cannot see that happening, he thinks the striker is the sort of individual who would transform United’s attack.

What is the latest news involving Osimhen?

According to the reliable Gianluca Di Marzio, super-agent Jorge Mendes is trying to get Ronaldo a transfer to Napoli in a move that would see Osimhen head to United.

The Italian journalist states that the Serie A side are open to such a deal but want €100m (£85.4m) on top of the Portugal legend in exchange for their talisman.

Osimhen has made a strong start to the season, scoring two goals in his first three outings for Napoli.

Ronaldo, in contrast, is yet to register this term, though he did start from the bench in United’s last two fixtures.

What has Jones said about Osimhen to United?

Jones thinks Osimhen would be an incredible addition to United’s squad, but he cannot see this potential deal involving Ronaldo happening.

Speaking about it, the journalist told GIVEMESPORT: “That’d be a really significant one. I think there’s a very slim chance that Osimhen ends up at Man United at this point. He’s got huge value in the market and including him in a deal like this completely makes sense, but it would be so tricky.

“Look, Osimhen would be an unbelievable signing for Man United; it would transform this team if he was the focal point of that attack. It’s just hard to see at this late stage of the window.”

Will United sign Osimhen before the transfer window closes?

Osimhen definitely could be a good signing for United. He is developing into a deadly striker in front of goal, netting 18 times in all competitions last season.

Do you know this obscure Manchester United footballer from the 1990s?

However, a transfer for the 23-year-old does seem unlikely. The Red Devils have just agreed to pay Ajax £85m for Antony. Are they really prepared to pay £85m again on another attacker?

From Osimhen’s perspective, perhaps a move to Erik ten Hag’s side and one of the biggest clubs in the world may appeal to him, while it has become quite clear that Ronaldo wants to leave Old Trafford. But with so many pieces involved, this looks like an extremely difficult deal to do.
