Harry Kane is undoubtedly one of the best centre-forwards in the world right now. While all the focus is on Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema et al, Kane regularly slips under the radar when we're thinking about the best strikers around, and it's unacceptable. Now 29 years old, Kane is just entering his prime years, but has already achieved a number of remarkable achievements. He boasts several Premier League Golden Boot awards, has been top scorer at a World Cup and has even developed his game in recent years from someone who's more than just a poacher. But while Kane has spent the last several years firing them in at a rather frightening rate for club and country and continues to keep on track to smash a number of staggering goal records, there's one thing that still crucially eludes him; silverware. For all the goals the England international has scored and all the work he has done away from the penalty box to also become one of the best passers and creators in football right now, the age old debate is that Kane cannot be considered an all-time great while those goals aren't firing a side to a trophy. He's come agonisingly close, too. Be it Tottenham's runners up finish in the Premier League in 2015/16, their run to the Champions League final in 2019 or even reaching a semi-final and a final with England, Kane has been on the cusp of cementing his legacy on a number of occasions, but hasn't made it stick. To suggest those shortcomings fall entirely on his shoulders is absurd. And yes, while there are no points or trophies for coming close, to dismiss Kane's abilities and his frightening legacy over what is always a toss up on the day is rather harsh.

Frenkie de Jong ARRIVES IN LONDON (Football Terrace)

Kane almost got his move away from Tottenham in the summer of 2021 and will continue to be linked with a move away from the club, likely even after he stops playing at this point, but Jamie Carragher certainly believes that the narrative surrounding the 29-year-old is wholly unfair, regardless of what happens.

A video posted to Twitter by @axelthfc is doing the rounds, where Carragher weighs in with his opinions on Kane and how he believes he is unfairly judged, comparing him to Alan Shearer in the process. His analysis is deep, and fascinating. Check it out below.

He begins strongly after stating he 'loves' Kane: "I still don't think he gets the respect he deserves.

"Now people sometimes say 'that's because he hasn't won a trophy', but Alan Shearer only won one - and I know it was the Premier League - but he only won one in his whole career, so he's one short than Alan Shearer."

Carragher continued: "And if you asked most people in this country 'Shearer or Kane?' I think 90% would say Shearer.

"People can have their own opinions, but I always feel like saying 'why?'"

The Liverpool legend then breaks into analysis to back up his support for Kane, mentioning that he's been a top scorer at a World Cup, is on course to become England's record scorer and beat Shearer's Premier League scoring record, and expands by touching on Kane's abilities away from scoring.

Acknowledging Shearer's ability to create goals via crosses, Carragher states: "What we see from Kane now we didn't see from Shearer. He's actually running the game from a number 10 position and putting people in (on goal).

"So people can say who they want, you have opinions, but why would we never say Harry Kane was better than Alan Shearer? (It) Almost feels like no one would say, but everything in front of you when you look at the stats says he is."

A rather bold statement to make from Carragher, who rightly acknowledges that Shearer is widely regarded as the Premier League's greatest ever striker.

Kane in action for England

Ultimately, debates like these are what make football entertaining and it would be a rather boring way of enjoying the game if we all shared the same opinion.

One thing is for sure, though, and it is that Kane's abilities and legacy cannot be discounted, merely because he is yet to lift a major honour.

Time is still very much on his side and with Tottenham firing on all fours under Antonio Conte this season, perhaps it will come in north London after all.
