Wolverhampton Wanderers may miss out on loan target Mohammed Kudus with Ajax reluctant to part with the midfielder, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

What's the latest news involving Mohammed Kudus?

Ghannasoccernet reported last week that Wolves have joined the race to sign Kudus and are set for talks with his representatives over a potential season-long loan.

Everton are also said to be interested in Kudus, who is keen on securing more game-time after being used sparingly by Ajax during the first few games of the season.

He's clocked up just 29 minutes of action in the Eredivisie this term and received a mere five-minute run-out on Sunday despite Ajax holding a healthy 2-0 lead over Utrecht.

Nonetheless, it seems he may have difficulties in trying to leave Ajax this summer, a problem that has likely only been exacerbated by Manchester United agreeing an £85m deal for their star winger, Antony.

What has Dean Jones said about Mohammed Kudus?

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones provided an update on Kudus' situation at Ajax - stating that the Dutch club aren't keen on letting him go.

He said: "Kudus, from what I'm hearing, I'm not sure Ajax are even that keen on letting him go at this point. They're not totally ruling it out - a couple of other clubs have been linked too. I think the player's just looking for opportunities to play football at the moment.

"But Ajax's argument on the flip of this is 'do you think you'll see many minutes in the Premier League, are you ready for that move?' So I think that's in his head a little bit too and he's got to be wary of where he would make a move to."

Do Wolves need Kudus?

Kudus - who Transfermarkt value at £9m - is a player of obvious potential.

He's already a regular for Ghana at just 22 years of age and has been mooted as a better option than Dusan Tadic for Ajax in attacking midfield.

But he's also never made more than eight starts for Ajax in any Eredivisie campaign, suggesting he wouldn't make an instant impact at Molineux - which begs the question of whether a loan deal would make any sense.

On top of that, Wolves recently signed a new midfielder in Matheus Nunes, while Leander Dendoncker, Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho all look set to stay at Wolves beyond the end of the transfer window.

Wolves could do with an extra body considering Bruno Lage has often set up his side in 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 formations of late, although Daniel Podence is certainly capable of operating in the No.10 role.

But the Midlands club should be targeting players who can make an impact straight away. Kudus doesn't seem like the right candidate to really elevate the squad at this time.
