Detroit Lions cornerback Chase Lucas had an interesting conversation with Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin following their preseason game.

This weekend saw the final round of preseason games for all 32 NFL teams, meaning that the next time we see a ball snapped in the league, it will be for real when the Buffalo Bills travel to face the Los Angeles Rams on September 8th.

And with the final round of cuts to be announced this coming Tuesday, it means that for a lot of players in the NFL, this weekend may well have been the final time that they play the sport, as they may look to move on to other careers, whilst some will still hold onto that dream and move to the USFL or XFL in hopes of making it back some day.

One of the players who might well be finding himself in that list of players is the Detroit Lions’ Chase Lucas. A 7th-round pick out of Arizona State University this summer, just because they spent a draft pick on him, doesn’t mean that his place on the roster is secured.

Now Lucas’s overall numbers aren’t exactly the greatest when it comes to what he did in the preseason, with just three total tackles, one of which was for loss and one pass deflection, numbers that, whilst somewhat understandable as he was playing limited minutes and is still adjusting to life on the professional level, still isn’t the greatest all things considered.

However, it might be what he did after the game that dictates what his future is going to look like going forward.

What did he say?

Speaking after the Detroit Lions lost 19-9 to the Pittsburgh Steelers this past Sunday, players as they usually do, came together in order to shake hands, with some exchanging a couple of messages with each other.

The TV cameras picked up the odd exchange, including one between Lucas and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, in which Lucas appeared to be very complimentary to the 50-year-old:

The footage has since been deleted from a lot of ‘official’ feeds, which might perhaps be an indicator that some might not like how his message came across.

With HBO featuring the Lions on Hard Knocks this season, it will be interesting to see if head coach Dan Campbell has anything to say on the matter, and if he does, then there is a good chance we might be able to see the fallout from it.
