Leeds United are exploring the possibility of signing Wolverhampton Wanderers star Hwang Hee-chan ahead of the deadline as head coach Jesse Marsch 'wants him' at Elland Road, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Whites have not been afraid to splash the cash during the summer window, with close to £100million being spent on reinforcements, but there is still time for Marsch to make adjustments to his squad ahead of Thursday's 11pm cut-off point.

What's the latest news involving Hwang?

Hwang only became a Wolves player on a permanent basis earlier in the summer, thanks to the club taking advantage of an £11.9million option written into his loan switch from RB Leipzig, but it appears that a move away from Molineux could already be on the cards.

According to The Sun, Leeds are admirers of the striker and may sell winger Dan James to Tottenham Hotspur to finance a deal.

But the report suggests the Yorkshire giants are not Hwang's only admirers as Everton could make a move for the 47-cap South Korea international, who is available for £15million, if they fail to land Ben Brereton Diaz from Blackburn Rovers.

The Athletic reporter Phil Hay has hinted that Marsch is keen to secure the Wolves man's services ahead of the deadline and would even be open to negotiating an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy.

Although Wolves boss Bruno Lage has revealed that he wants to keep Hwang at Molineux, he refused to rule out the possibility of a move away.

What has Dean Jones said about Hwang?

Jones understands that Marsch, who was appointed as Leeds' chief in February, is driving the Whites' interest in Hwang.

The journalist is aware that the Premier League side's hierarchy are looking into whether luring the 26-year-old to Elland Road is possible at this stage of the window.

When asked whether a move for Hwang is on the cards ahead of the deadline, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "It's not easy, but it's clear Marsch wants him.

"The club have told Marsch that they would look into it and see if he is attainable now."

Why is Hwang of interest to Leeds?

There is no doubt that Marsch knows how to get the best out of Hwang as the South Korean scored 16 goals and registered a further 24 assists while playing under the now-Leeds boss at Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig.

Those numbers emphasise that a reunion could be fruitful for the Whites and the fact he also boasts Premier League experience, having made 34 appearances in the competition, is another plus point.

Lage has described Hwang as 'a top player' and Wolves' loss would certainly be Leeds' gain if they can get a deal over the line.
