Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is not currently in danger of being sacked, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Gerrard's team were booed off against West Ham on Sunday after suffering their third defeat in four Premier League games this season, which leaves them just one point above the relegation zone.

Having suffered an opening day defeat to Bournemouth, they bounced back by beating Everton to get up and running the following week.

But defeats to Crystal Palace and West Ham have cranked up the pressure on Gerrard, whose side are at the wrong end of the Premier League table despite a favourable set of fixtures in August.

Regardless, with Gerrard less than 10 months into his reign as Villa boss, Jones doesn't think that he's in a position where he could lose his job.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "His job is not under threat at the moment, but the fans aren't happy.

"The board just aren't going to sack him at this point, the relationship it just too tight."

While Jones states that Gerrard's job isn't under threat, the pressure could increase even further in the days ahead.

That's because Villa's next two games are away to Arsenal and at home to Manchester City, with the form of those two pointing towards another two defeats.

Should that prove the case, Villa will almost certainly be inside the relegation zone after six games and Gerrard might be seriously starting to fear for his job.
