Chelsea owner Todd Boehly might be tempted to make a late move to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Thomas Tuchel is believed to be in the market for a striker before Thursday's 11pm deadline and Jones reckons that Boehly is still keen on bringing the £27m-rated forward to Stamford Bridge.

What's the latest news involving Ronaldo?

With Chelsea's move for Barcelona ace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hanging in the balance, the Blues might need to potentially look at other options.

One of those could be Ronaldo, who the west Londoners registered an interest in earlier this summer after the 37-year-old expressed his desire to leave following Manchester United's failure to qualify for the Champions League.

This came after Boehly and Jorge Mendes, Ronaldo's agent, had previously met and discussed the possibility of the Portugal international making the shock move to the capital.

But Chelsea decided against signing Ronaldo and have pursued other options, with Aubameyang and Wilfried Zaha both on Tuchel's agenda.

But the United star's future hasn't yet been resolved, which is why Jones reckons Boehly might be tempted to make a last-ditch attempt before the window closes.

What did Jones say about Ronaldo?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "There's the small temptation of a last minute offer for Ronaldo. There's definitely part of Todd Boehly that would like to do that. And you can understand it as an American owner as to why you might want to sign Ronaldo, although Tuchel is not so keen."

Could Ronaldo sign for Chelsea?

It feels almost impossible to imagine Ronaldo playing for another English club, but Chelsea are surely an attractive proposition for him right now.

Not only are they one of just a few clubs able to afford his wages, but they can also offer him Champions League football, which is evidently close to the top of his priority list and a huge reason why he wants to leave United.

Therefore, heading into the final days of the window, if Chelsea don't manage to sign Aubameyang, they're surely amongst the favourites to land Ronaldo, although whether United are prepared to sell him to one of their top four rivals is another matter.
