Manchester United have ‘asked to be kept informed’ over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s situation, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The 33-year-old is available for transfer despite only arriving at Barcelona from Arsenal in January and has been heavily tipped to make a return to the Premier League this summer.

What is the latest news involving Aubameyang?

David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that Chelsea ‘made a proposal worth £15 million’ for Aubameyang but are yet to reach an agreement with Barca.

And the transfer expert has now stated that the west London outfit are ‘having second thoughts’ about signing the Gabon international as they are concerned about achieving a value-for-money deal.

Ornstein also states that United have been ‘keeping tabs’ on Aubameyang alongside Chelsea as they assess their options in case Cristiano Ronaldo seals a late exit from Old Trafford.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is reportedly being offered to Napoli by his agent Jorge Mendes as he searches for a club that is playing in the Champions League this season.

Aubameyang still has three years remaining on his £250,000-per-week contract at Camp Nou, though, meaning Barcelona are unlikely to let him depart cheaply.

What has Sheth said about Aubameyang?

Sheth has told GiveMeSport that Aubameyang is firmly on United’s radar, yet they are aware that Chelsea are ‘very strongly’ into the clinical marksman as well.

He said: “We know that United have asked to be kept informed, shall we say, on a number of players. One of those players includes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

“We know that there is an interest there. Quite how strong that interest is, is debatable, but we do know that they are just being asked to be kept informed on his situation because we also know that Chelsea are very strongly into Aubameyang as well.”

Would Aubameyang be a good signing?

After failing to make a single senior appearance for AC Milan following underwhelming loan spells with AS Monaco and Lille, Aubameyang showcase his quality at Saint-Etienne.

In just 97 appearances for the French outfit, the 6 foot 2 ace racked up 66 goal contributions, earning a move to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in 2013.

And Aubameyang went from strength to strength at the Signal Iduna Park, registering 141 goals and 36 assists in 213 outings, claiming one DFB-Pokal along the way.

At Arsenal, the elite-level forward maintained his incredible record in front of goal, finding the back of the net on 92 occasions in 163 games, setting up 21 further strikes, firing them to FA Cup glory in 2019/20.

Whether Aubameyang is still at that level is up for debate, but if Ronaldo leaves, he could be a decent stop-gap for Erik ten Hag to call upon during his first term at the United helm.
