Chelsea are on the verge of signing Wesley Fofana as the deal which is set to take the Leicester City star to Stamford Bridge is 'as good as done', according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Blues have not been afraid to splash the cash, having spent close to £170million since the transfer window reopened for business, but further reinforcements could be drafted in ahead of Thursday's 11pm deadline.

What's the latest news involving Fofana?

According to The Athletic, Fofana is currently in the United States undergoing a medical as he nears a switch to Chelsea.

The report suggests the 21-year-old has agreed a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge and the hierarchy, led by Todd Boehly after a £4.25billion takeover was completed in May, sent the Leicester man Stateside for additional peace of mind.

It is understood that Chelsea have reached an agreement of £70million - plus add-ons - with Leicester, but they have been made to fight for Fofana's signature.

The breakthrough in negotiations has come after the west Londoners were left frustrated by the rejection of three proposals.

Chelsea have reportedly offered the Frenchman a contract worth £200,000-per-week, meaning he will become the club's fourth highest earner.

What has Dharmesh Sheth said about Fofana?

Sheth understands that Fofana will be unveiled as the latest addition to Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel's squad imminently.

The Sky Sports reporter is aware that the former Saint-Etienne central defender is currently in the United States and his arrival will be announced as long as no problems are brought to the Blues' attention following the medical tests.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT on Tuesday, Sheth said: "Wesley Fofana is on his way to Chelsea. That deal is as good as done.

"He's having his medicals out in the US to finalise that deal."

Will Fofana be a good signing for Chelsea?

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has described Fofana as ‘an absolutely phenomenal talent’, so it would appear that Chelsea are on the cusp of concluding a shrewd piece of business.

The five-cap France under-21 international boasts Premier League experience, having made 37 appearances in the competition, and that will be another plus point for Tuchel as it means he will not require time to get up to speed in the top flight.

Fofana missed the majority of last season through injury, which will be a concern and is a leading reason for the rigorous medical tests he is currently undergoing, but there is no doubt that he will add steel to Chelsea's rearguard.
