Chelsea are on the verge of signing Wesley Fofana as the deal which is set to take the Leicester City star to Stamford Bridge is 'as good as done', according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Blues have not been afraid to splash the cash, having spent close to £170million since the transfer window reopened for business, but further reinforcements could be drafted in ahead of Thursday's 11pm deadline.

According to The Athletic, Fofana is currently in the United States undergoing a medical as he nears a switch to Chelsea.

The report suggests the 21-year-old has agreed a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge and the hierarchy, led by Todd Boehly after a £4.25billion takeover was completed in May, sent the Leicester man Stateside for additional peace of mind.

It is understood that Chelsea have reached an agreement of £70million - plus add-ons - with Leicester, but they have been made to fight for Fofana's signature.

The breakthrough in negotiations has come after the west Londoners were left frustrated by the rejection of three proposals.

The five-cap France under-21 international boasts Premier League experience, having made 37 appearances in the competition, and that will be another plus point for Tuchel as it means he will not require time to get up to speed in the top flight.
