Everton will ‘try to complete’ a deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye ahead of Thursday’s deadline, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The 32-year-old has been tipped to make a return to Goodison Park for several weeks now and could finally be set to complete his move following lengthy negotiations.

What is the latest news involving Gueye?

At the start of the month, Sky Sports reported that the deal to bring Gueye back to Everton from PSG was at a ‘very advanced stage’.

Frank Lampard’s charges were said to be ‘pushing’ to get the move over the line yet talks appeared to reach an impasse and little advancement was made in the subsequent weeks.

However, with just over 48 hours remaining in the current transfer window, it still remains to be seen whether Gueye, who earns £99,000-per-week, will finally become an Everton player once again.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has revealed that Gueye remains the ‘priority’ for the Merseyside outfit and that an agreement has been in place with the Senegal international and PSG for ‘some time’.  

Yet but there is still no agreement between the engine room operator and the reigning Ligue 1 champions to finalise his departure.

What has Romano said about Gueye?

Everton are said to want a quick resolution, or they will move on to other targets as Lampard is eager to improve his midfield before the window slams shut.

Romano has informed GiveMeSport that Gueye is a player the Toffees ‘want’ but only on their terms.

He said: “I think they will try to complete this crazy deal for Gueye from Paris Saint-Germain. Idrissa Gana Gueye is a player that they want, that Frank Lampard wants, but at their conditions.”

Who else could Everton sign?

Ornstein has disclosed that Manchester United’s James Garner is also a ‘top target’ for Everton after being made available for transfer by the Red Devils.

The 21-year-old is valued at around £20 million by his boyhood club and could add some much-need guile to the midfield should he make the switch.

Meanwhile, Football Insider state that Everton are now set to face stiff competition from Newcastle United for Wolves’ Leander Dendoncker.

Everton saw an opening offer of £8.5m rejected for the Belgium international and will now have to move quickly in order to secure Dendoncker’s signature ahead of the Magpies.
