Talks between WWE and The Good Brothers over a sensational return have "fizzled out" according to a new report.
Back in July, a report emerged which indicated that WWE had made a play to bring back an unnamed former tag team, and we've now got an update on that.
PWInsider is reporting that the team was The Good Brothers, with WWE contacting Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson over a potential return.
However, it has since emerged that the talks, which took place during Vince McMahon's finals days in WWE, have now "fizzled out".
The reason the talks didn't process, at least according to PWInsider, is that the former Raw Tag Team Champions felt that the bridges had been burnt with WWE after their release in 2020.
There had been overtures from WWE (the Vince McMahon-era regime, not the current regime) towards the team, but WWE sources indicate talks at the time fizzled when Gallows and Anderson, having already been burnt once when they signed to remain with the company instead of heading to AEW in 2019.
It's worth noting that this was during Vince McMahon's days in charge of WWE, and a lot has now changed following his retirement.
There is a general feeling of optimism within WWE now that Triple H is running Creative, and we've seen several former stars return, including Johnny Gargano and Karrion Kross.
Perhaps now that they'd be working under Triple H, The Good Brothers could be tempted into at least re-opening talks with WWE over a return.
Good Brothers could be brought back to WWE
Good Brothers were brought to WWE in 2016 as part of the promotion's raid of NJPW, which also saw AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura join.
They stayed with WWE for four years, being the subject of stop/start pushes as Vince McMahon's mistreatment of the tag team division continued.
As forming The Club alongside AJ Styles, Gallows and Anderson were two of the first WWE Superstars released in April 2020 at the start of COVID-19 as part of a cost-cutting measure.
Since then, they've gone on to work for the likes of IMPACT, NJPW and AEW, but the talented tag team are set to become free agents next month, with some reports even claiming that they already are.
