Antonio Conte is believed to be in the market for an attacker before the window closes and Spurs are being linked with a shock move for the Wales international.
What’s the latest news involving James?
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are interested in signing James, who could be a replacement for Bryan Gil.
Gil hasn’t started a Premier League game since his arrival from Sevilla 12 months ago and hasn’t played a minute this season, although Conte wants two players in every position and wants to sign a replacement if he returns to Valencia on loan.
But Romano reckons that Tottenham are only keen on a loan deal with an option to buy, which he believes isn’t something that appeals to Leeds.
What did Romano say about James?
He told GIVEMESPORT: “Dan James was a name they discussed internally with Leeds on Friday, but then at the end of the week Leeds decided to keep the player and the player is happy.
“It’s complicated because Tottenham are exploring a loan move and not a permanent deal. This is why at the moment Leeds are not accepting that kind of move for James.”
Would James be a good signing for Tottenham?
Considering the calibre of names that Spurs have been linked with this summer, ending up with James would be extremely underwhelming.
He might have decent pedigree on the international stage, scoring five goals in 34 games for Wales, while he was once a regular at United, but his attacking output in the Premier League has been poor.
In 86 top-flight matches, he’s registered 10 goals and 12 assists, with only nine of those goal contributions coming since his Red Devils departure last year.
This season, James has been struggling to get into the Leeds team following their number of summer additions, so it would be quite a strange decision for Tottenham to decide to go out and sign him.
Heading into the final hours of the window, Conte is keen on bringing in another attacker, but getting James on board would be a bitter end to a summer that started with so much promise.
