Newcastle United are not in for Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, according to the reliable Fabrizio Romano.

While the 28-year-old is currently on loan at AC Milan, there has been talk about him cancelling it and his contract at Stamford Bridge ahead of a potential move to Eddie Howe's side.

What is the latest news involving Bakayoko?

Last summer, Bakayoko joined Milan on a two-year loan deal, but it appears that he is looking to cut that short.

According to Sky Sport Italia (via Football Italia), the Frenchman wants to terminate both his contracts with Milan and Chelsea so that he can join another team for free.

In terms of where Bakayoko could end up, a report from Calciomercato claims Newcastle have strong interest in him.

While it appears that Bakayoko's next club could be getting him for free, Chelsea had to pay £40m when they signed him from AS Monaco back in 2017.

What has Romano said about Bakayoko and Newcastle?

Romano has told GIVEMESPORT that there is actually not anything in the Bakayoko to St James' Park rumours.

When asked if there is any truth in the speculation, the Italian journalist said to GMS: "At the moment, I'm told no. I think it's more likely for him to stay in Italy, if not with AC Milan, then with Monza. There are some options."

Should Newcastle sign Bakayoko?

Given the upward trajectory Newcastle are on, they can probably do even better than Bakayoko.

Since their takeover last year, they have already landed the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak, the latter costing the club a record £60m after he made the move from Real Sociedad last week.

The above is not to say that Bakayoko is a terrible player; however, he has had his struggles in the Premier League with Chelsea.

After just one season at Stamford Bridge, the Blues allowed him to join Milan in 2018 - his first loan spell at the San Siro - following his failure to adapt to English football.

On a free transfer, should his contracts at Milan and Chelsea be terminated, maybe it would not be the worst deal. This is a France international who has played for two European giants and featured in the Champions League after all.

Nevertheless, you could not blame Newcastle fans for feeling underwhelmed by these links. Knowing that their club now has money, they will surely want to see the Premier League outfit targeting more expensive players like Guimaraes and Isak rather than free agents, something Bakayoko could be about to become.
