Newcastle United are still looking to sign another forward player before the transfer deadline despite the recent acquisition of Alexander Isak, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Eddie Howe has overseen a busy few months of business at St James’ Park but is running out of time if he wants to strengthen his squad ahead of the 11pm cut-off.

What is the latest Newcastle transfer news?

The Magpies completed the signing of Isak ahead of the deadline for a club-record £63 million from Real Sociedad.

The Sweden international has been signed on a ‘long-term deal’ but missed their clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday as he awaited international clearance.

Isak reportedly rejected interest from a number of clubs, including Manchester United, to complete a move to the North East.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are understood to have hijacked Everton’s move for Wolves midfielder Leander Dendoncker, as Howe looks to bolster his midfield.

According to MailOnline, the Toffees are looking to return the favour by reviving their interest in Watford forward Joao Pedro, a player previously chased by Newcastle.

James Maddison was strongly linked with a move away from Leicester to St James’ Park earlier in the summer, with two bids of up to £50 million rejected by the Foxes.

The Sun have since reported that Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has become their number one target ahead of tonight’s deadline.

What has Sheth said on their plans?

Sheth understands that the Magpies could still look to bring in another striker before the window slams shut tonight.

The reporter also claims that despite splashing the cash this summer, Newcastle will not yet be limited to loan deals either.

When asked whether temporary deals will now be their only option, Sheth told GIVEMESPORT: “Not necessarily. I mean, that is an option for them, of course. I think they still want to bring in a forward player because Joao Pedro was one that they were after before the Isak one just emerged out of the blue.”

What have Newcastle been up to this summer?

Many expected a wild summer of spending from Newcastle, with them now being led by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.

However, they have picked their moves carefully, with just four stars arriving at present.

Isak joined the likes of Sven Botman, Matt Targett and Nick Pope through the door at St James’ Park and took their summer spending up to £122 million.
