Wesley Fofana's move to Chelsea from Leicester City was finally made official on Wednesday.

Per the ever-reliable David Ornstein, the final fee for the talented centre-back stands at £69.5 million with no add-ons.

That figure is slightly less than previously reported, but it still makes Fofana - who's signed a seven-year deal at Chelsea - one of the most expensive defenders in history.

Will he be worth the enormous outlay? Only time will tell, although it's hard to envisage a world in which he flops at Chelsea after watching him dominate strikers for fun at the King Power over the past two years or so.

Fofana was quite simply electric at Leicester after touching down on English shores from Saint Etienne and he'll always hold fond memories of his time at the club.

However, the 21-year-old still couldn't resist making a cheeky comment about Brendan Rodgers in a farewell post.

Fofana was publicly called out by Rodgers on a number occasions in recent weeks, with the Leicester boss omitting him from the matchday squad against both Southampton and Chelsea.

The player's "commitment" and "behaviour" were questioned by his now former mentor, so he's chosen to respond to those claims in a statement posted to social media.

Fofana's farewell post

Fofana wrote: "It's time to say goodbye.

"During these two seasons here, I have probably experienced the most intense moments of my young football career. I have grown as a player but also as a man.

"Thank you to you, Foxes fans, for your kindness and your constant support, even in the moments you were led to believe I didn’t respect the club. I will never forget how we vibrated, exulted or cried, together… I will never forget you.

"I chose not to communicate during this transfer window despite all the criticism and all the often false and misleading comments, even when they were coming from the club. I understood and I learned.

"I didn't want to damage the image of the institution and I chose to take it rather than answer. I thank Top for his understanding, thanks to the managers, to the coach who has always appreciated me, even if he chose to expose me a lot lately... I got it coach.

"Thanks to the staff for their trust, their advice and of course, their support during my injury and my recovery period.

"There were ups and downs but I never cheated, you can be sure of that. Thank you to all the people who work here everyday, you are the soul of this club!

"Finally, thanks to my teammates, my brothers, the Foxes soldiers. We'll meet again, on a football field or somewhere else."

Wesley Fofana's post saying farewell to Leicester City

Yeah, we can't imagine Rodgers cracking a smile when reading "I got it coach", can you?

The Leicester manager will now be eager to bring in a replacement for Fofana in the final days of the transfer window, although he won't be free to spend lavishly on a new centre-back.

According to The Telegraph, Rodgers can only spend a third of the Fofana fee, with Reims defender Wout Faes expected to be the only arrival before the deadline - a deal expected to cost around £15 million.
