Liverpool have shown interest in Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The Reds have been linked with Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz amid their injury crisis in the middle of the park, but Crook says Berge is the name that he has heard.

What is the latest transfer news involving Liverpool?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp recently confirmed that the club would try to sign a new midfielder - but only if the right one becomes available.

"We are looking for it," the German said towards the end of last month (via Daily Mail) as he discussed the possibility of bringing in someone for the engine room. "If it is the right player, we need him. If it is not the right player, we don't need him."

Right now, the Merseyside outfit are without Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita due to injury, hence Klopp's decision to scour the market for a new midfielder.

According to journalist Matheus Leal, Liverpool have now made an offer for Luiz as they look to solve their huge problem.

What has Crook said about Berge and Liverpool?

While Crook has not personally heard anything about Luiz, the talkSPORT reporter has told GIVEMESPORT that Liverpool have considered Sheffield United's 6 ft 5 midfielder.

Speaking to GMS, he said: "Klopp finally admitted they need some help in that area. I've not heard Douglas Luiz myself, but I heard they were interested in Sander Berge at Sheffield United."

Will Liverpool look to address any other positions?

That seems highly unlikely. Klopp appears to be satisfied with the overall state of his squad.

Back in July, when the former Borussia Dortmund manager was asked about making more signings after Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay, he told Sky Sports: "Unless we have injuries or player sales no, we have our squad.

"Hopefully, there won't be any so Liverpool supporters can focus on other things."

Considering that, with the rest of the Reds' squad in good shape, it is hard to imagine them being too busy today.

Some supporters, however, may feel they need more additions. It is going to take something special to stop Manchester City, who are now an even scarier outfit following the addition of Erling Haaland.

The Norway international has made a ridiculous start to life in English football, scoring nine goals in his first five Premier League outings. Do Liverpool have enough to go head-to-head with that this term? Only time will tell.
