Leeds United have held discussions over a deal to sign Wolves attacker Hwang Hee-chan amid the huge transfer twist involving PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo on deadline day, sources have told GIVEMESPORT.

Earlier in the summer it seemed as though Charles de Keteleare was the forward that the Yorkshire outfit really wanted to land, but the Belgian instead opted for a move to Italian giants AC Milan.

With Rodrigo starting the 2022/23 season in fine form and Patrick Bamford back involved after injury, it seemed as though bringing in a new player for the final third was less of a necessity than it might have been just a few weeks ago.

However, after netting five times in the Premier League in August, Rodrigo suffered a dislocated shoulder against Everton on Tuesday night which could leave him on the sidelines for a number of weeks.

Leeds turned to PSV attacker Gakpo on Wednesday with reports suggesting they were ready to fly him back to England on Thursday morning, before it was then said that the Dutch club had decided to keep the Netherlands international at Eindhoven, meaning Victor Orta now needs to look elsewhere.

What’s been said about Hwang?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, a Leeds source said: “He’s someone that Jesse knows really, really well, but he’s not the only option they’ve got. Discussions have taken place over that [deal for Hwang], but whether he’s the one that comes in remains to be seen.”

Will Leeds get a deal for Hwang done?

You never know what can happen on deadline day but it’s clear from Jesse Marsch’s comments after the Everton game that the South Korean is a player he clearly admires having worked with him previously at RB Salzburg prior to both men moving to English football.

The price could be an issue with Wolves reportedly valuing their player – who has scored five goals and provided two assists in 36 games – at around £25m, although the fact that the Midlands outfit have just signed Sasa Kalajdzic from Stuttgart suggests that there might be room for an attacking player to now leave Molineux.

After all, Brugo Lage now has Kalajdzic, Hwang, Raul Jimenez, Goncalo Guedes, Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto to choose from in attack.

Deadline day is always unpredictable but after seemingly failing with Gakpo, Leeds turning their attentions to Hwang shouldn’t be ruled out given talks have already taken place over a potential move to Elland Road.
