UFL, the upcoming competitor to both FIFA and eFootball, has been delayed into 2023.

The game is being developed by Strikerz Inc, a UK studio, and they have now confirmed that the game will not release in 2022, and is instead set to release next year.

The game was previously scheduled to release this year on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.

UFL is set to be a free-to-play game that is based on a “skill-first approach”, as per their official announcement, that does not have any pay-to-win mechanics.

Thus far, we have seen Strikerz Inc sign up a number of players and clubs to help promote the game ahead of its eventual release.

That includes West Ham United, Sporting CP, Shakhtar Donetsk, Borussia Monchengladbach and Besiktas, while Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo has been signed up as a brand ambassador.

That has led to plenty of excitement surrounding the upcoming game, and Strikerz have made some big promises.

Indeed, they claim that players will be able to create their own clubs and will be able to populate them with over 5,000 licenced footballers.

UFL has actually been in development since 2016 and was announced at Gamescom in 2021.

We have seen an official announcement trailer and a couple of screenshots have also been revealed, although it remains to be seen when exactly the game will be released.

As it stands, though, we will have to wait, as the CEO of the developers, Eugene Nashilov, has announced the delay.

He said in a video posted on YouTube: “It’s nothing new to say that this is a game of immense technological complexity — one that needs to simulate a full range of football mechanics and techniques with dynamic, realistic animations, world-class players, and so much more.

“Today, we’re announcing that the release date will be moved to 2023. Many of you have highlighted that this is likely… and you were right. The game is now approximately 80% ready, and we need more time to finish the development.”
