Everton have been boosted in their pursuit of Ben Brereton Diaz as Goodison Park is his 'most likely landing spot' despite Premier League rivals Fulham lodging a bid for the Blackburn Rovers star, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Toffees boss Frank Lampard strengthened his attacking options by completing the £15million signing of Neal Maupay from Brighton & Hove Albion last week, but he could still add further reinforcements ahead of tonight's 11pm deadline.

What's the latest news involving Brereton Diaz?

It emerged last night that Fulham had tabled a bid as they look to win the race for Blackburn striker Brereton Diaz.

While that offer was rejected by the Championship club, it is understood that the west Londoners are set to test their resolve by lodging another proposal ahead of the fast-approaching transfer deadline.

However, they are facing competition as transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told GIVEMESPORT that Everton are also working on a deal which would see Brereton Diaz seal a move to the Premier League.

Spanish outfit Celta Vigo reportedly submitted a bid for the 23-year-old last week, while West Ham United, Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Southampton, Bournemouth, Sevilla and Nice have also been mulling over whether to make a move.

There is uncertainty over where Brereton Diaz's long-term future lies as his Blackburn contract, which was extended after the Ewood Park outfit triggered a clause written into his previous deal, has less than 12 months to run.

What has Dean Jones said about Brereton Diaz?

Jones understands that Fulham's opening offer for Brereton Diaz fell some way short of Blackburn's expectations and, as a result, Everton are in pole position to strike a deal.

The journalist feels the Toffees could also benefit from the fact their Premier League rivals are deliberating whether to turn their attentions towards Coventry City frontman Viktor Gyokeres.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "Obviously, Fulham have come forward with an offer for Brereton Diaz, but their offer is way too low.

"It sounds like, from Fulham's end, they still expect Everton to go ahead and get Brereton Diaz.

"I'd say that his most likely landing spot still seems to be Everton. Fulham might actually ended up going for Gykeres, at Coventry, instead of him."

Would Brereton Diaz be a good signing for Everton?

Brereton Diaz has made a productive start to the new season and scored the winner as Blackburn overcame Blackpool last night.

That goal took his tally up to 42 over the course of his senior club career, so it is clear that the 15-cap Chile international is capable of being a menace in the opposition's penalty area.

Statistics show the Blackburn man averaged more goals per 90 minutes than Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Salomon Rondon and Neal Maupay last season, meaning he would be a smart addition to Everton’s squad.
