Aston Villa have definitely explored the possibility of signing Tottenham winger Lucas Moura, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Reports suggest that the Midlands club are considering making a move for the Brazilian before the window closes, and Jones says there is indeed interest there.

What is the latest news involving Lucas?

The Telegraph claimed yesterday that Villa have Lucas on their radar and are weighing up launching a bid for the 30-year-old, who cost Tottenham £25m over four years ago.

A player of his profile could be just what the Midlands club need after an extremely disappointing start to the new season.

They have lost four out of their five league games so far, with their most recent defeat coming against Arsenal after Mikel Arteta's men saw them off in a 2-1 victory at the Emirates.

From Lucas' perspective, a switch to Villa could also be a good thing, as the Brazil international is not a regular at Tottenham right now. He has played in just two of their fixtures so this term, starting in neither of them.

What has Jones said about Lucas to Villa?

Jones says Villa have looked at signing Lucas, though he is unsure if they have made any sort of approach on deadline day.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "I was told there definitely is something in that one and they have definitely touched base over Lucas Moura, so I'll have to check out whether they have revisited that today."

What could Villa's starting XI look like with Lucas?

While results may not be proving it yet, Villa already have quite a good first XI, and it could become even more exciting with the addition of Lucas.

In the shape they played against Arsenal, a 4-3-3, Lucas could start on the right flank, while compatriot Philippe Coutinho is deployed on the other. Ollie Watkins, meanwhile, would probably continue down the middle.

In terms of what Lucas would bring, you are obviously looking at pace and directness.

"He's direct. He's fast. Technically, he's very good, even though he's travelling at a high speed a lot of the time," his team-mate Eric Dier said a few years ago when discussing his attributes.

"I think one of his qualities that I really enjoy is that even though he's fast and moves at pace, he still sees a pass and he's still intelligent."

If Steven Gerrard can land him, that would be some way to end the transfer window at Villa Park.
