Arsenal could secure Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto for ‘£50 million’ at this stage in the window, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Gunners have been linked with a late move for the 22-year-old in recent weeks after identifying him as a potential replacement for record-signing Nicolas Pepe out wide.

What is the latest news involving Neto?

David Ornstein of The Athletic reported earlier in the month that Neto had emerged as Arsenal’s ‘top target’ following lengthy discussions with his agent Jorge Mendes, who also has close ties to Wolves.

Any deal for the Portugal international was always likely to be difficult to complete, though, as he only put pen to paper on a new five-year contract at Molineux in March.

Football.London then provided a recent update on Neto’s situation, claiming that he ‘would be open to the move’ if Wolves were to accept a big-money offer from the north London outfit.

However, they also state that the deal is ‘unlikely’ to happen ahead of tonight’s 11 pm deadline as the Midlands outfit will not have enough time to source a suitable replacement.

What has Jones said about Neto?

Jones has informed GiveMeSport that Wolves have lowered their asking price for Neto but is sceptical over the chances of the deal actually happening.

He said: “It's not going to be an easy one to do at this point. But I'm told that actually, it would be £50 million, earlier on in the week, I was told they would hold out for up to £60 million.

“But there seems to be a feeling that actually, Wolves would take £50 million for him at this point.

“So, if Arsenal are willing to throw that much money into the market in these late stages, then it can happen. But again, we've got to presume that it's unlikely until they actually make that bid.”

How have Arsenal’s wingers been performing?

So far this season, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have been in fabulous form for Arsenal, racking up a combined five goal contributions in the capital club’s opening five Premier League fixtures.

Nevertheless, Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson, who hasn’t started a top-flight game since 2019/20, are the only other senior options available to Arteta on the flanks.

Neto showcased his truly top-class potential in 2020/21 before a serious injury curtailed his campaign, registering five goals and six assists in 31 Premier League appearances.

The skilful attacker has been labelled “world-class” by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp in the past and would surely be a welcomed addition at the Emirates Stadium despite the form of Saka and Martinelli.
