Arsenal didn't make a bid for Shakhtar Donetsk rising star Mykhaylo Mudryk, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

What's the latest transfer news involving Arsenal?

On Wednesday, Fabrizio Romano hinted at a late Arsenal move for the Ukrainian international, while the Mirror reported that Brentford were ready to hijack any potential deal with the north London club.

The promising winger boasts two goals and ten assists in 28 appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk and it's no secret that Arsenal have been in the market for another wide option this summer.

They had an interest in Leeds winger Raphinha, who ended up signing for Barcelona, and have also been linked with Wolves star Pedro Neto.

But with the deadline now looming, it seems Arsenal are unlikely to bring in another winger, with their final hours of the transfer window dominated by potentially doomed attempts to snap up Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

However, Jones has suggested that Arsenal were never that advanced in their pursuit of Mudryk, who Transfermarkt value at £8.1m.

What has Dean Jones said about Arsenal's interest in Mudryk?

Speaking with GiveMeSport, Jones explained that Arsenal never tabled a bid for the 21-year-old.

The transfer insider said: "They were linked heavily with Mykhaylo Mudryk in the late stages of the window but my information is that Arsenal checked out the situation but did not actually make an offer."

Will Mikel Arteta be happy with Arsenal's transfer business this summer?

Arteta won’t have too many complaints with how Arsenal have acted in the transfer market.

It was obvious the Gunners needed a reliable centre-forward after parting with Pierre-Emerick Aubemyang in January and Alexandre Lacazette this summer, and the Gunners addressed that problem with a big-money swoop for Gabriel Jesus. He's already provided three goals and three assists in the Premier League this season.

Meanwhile, Oleksandr Zinchenko will give a lot to Arsenal’s squad. He brings a title-winning mentality from Manchester City and can operate in a number of roles, including at left-back where the north Londoners needed a reliable alternative to Kieran Tierney.

At the same time, some of the deadwood has been moved on - Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira, Bernd Leno and Kostantinos Mavropanos have left permanently, while Nicolas Pepe, Nuno Tavares and Pablo Mari are all out on loan.

Overall, Arsenal’s summer business has seemingly taken them a step forward, although they are a little light on wide options following Pepe’s move to Nice and their failed pursuits of the aforementioned wingers.
