Haas team principal Guenther Steiner says that there is more interest in the available second seat for 2023 than there was going into 2021.

The team have come on great strides in recent times with 2021 written off by them so they could focus fully on 2022's car.

Indeed, it has made them far more competitive and they've enjoyed some good results along the way this year, with both Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher scoring points.

Whilst Magnussen has got another year on his contract for 2023, though, Mick Schumacher is still yet to agree a new deal and he has been tipped to leave the team, with the likes of Alpine and AlphaTauri touted as potential next destinations.

That said, he could yet sign a new deal with Haas but there are several other drivers linked with the job, including Daniel Ricciardo and Antonio Giovinazzi.

That in mind, then, Steiner was asked for an update in the Haas motorhome on Thursday afternoon at the Dutch GP over the potential second driver, and he said that the seat is one of interest to a handful of names, which is more than can be said when they were heading into 2021:

“For sure that cockpit is more interesting than it was last year.

“I remember when we let Kevin and Romain [Grosjean] go at the end of 2020 and I said ‘guys, you probably don’t want to be here in ’21 because it’s probably going to be a very disappointing year’.

“Now the car is much better and I think will get better over time, too, so obviously we are a much more interesting opportunity.

“But we are not in a hurry to make a decision.”
