Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula were left fuming as a controversial end to their latest doubles match resulted in their exit from the US Open. The American duo accused umpire Christian Rask of "stealing points" from them during their first round clash against Leylah Fernandez and Daria Saville.Pegula berated Rask after he called a let during the deciding set, which the opposing team went on to win.At 7-5, Gauff was in the middle of hitting a shot that would have been a point for the the Canadian Open champions, but Saville called for a let as a piece of debris — which looked to be a piece of paper — flew onto the court.Rask gave the let and the point was chalked off, which naturally left both Gauff and Pegula visibly upset."It's not fair, you're taking points away from us for the second time," an emotional Gauff stressed. "You're stealing points from us."

Pegula, who was the more heated of the two, took aim at the umpire and let rip in a loaded rant.

"[Saville] cannot call let," Pegula yelled. "[Gauff] has a sitter right on top of the net. You did not call it until [Saville] stopped.

"She yelled in the middle of the point 'let.' You can't even f***ing do that!"

Gauff, who became the doubles world number one last month, could be seen wiping away tears as the pair returned to the court to replay the point.

Despite their best efforts, Pegula and Gauff were knocked out of the US Open after a 6-3, 5-7, 6-7 defeat.

It will certainly be a disappointing exit for the two Americans, who won the Qatar Open and Canadian Open this year. They also reached the final of the French Open — their best finish as a doubles partnership.

Both women are still in the running on the singles stage at Flushing Meadows, with Gauff set to take on compatriot Madison Keys and Pegula preparing to face Yue Yuan of China in the third round.
