Max Verstappen will start his home Grand Prix from pole position on Sunday afternoon as he took pole at Zandvoort by two-hundredths of a second.

The Dutchman's home weekend did not get off to the start he would have wanted with a gearbox issue stopping his FP1 before it really got going, and the lack of running meant he and his team were still working on set-up come FP2 yesterday, with them still off of the pace.

However, by FP3 earlier today, Max was inside the top three and looking far more competitive and, indeed, when it mattered most of all, in qualifying, he delivered once again to send the home support into an orange sea of rapture.

Alongside Max will be Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari, with team-mate Carlos Sainz lining up third - with the top three separated by less than a tenth of a second.

Mercedes will feel as though they might be able to join the party out in front, too, with Lewis Hamilton to start P4 ahead of Sergio Perez, who spun towards the end of Q3, and George Russell in the sister Merc.

Indeed, the top three teams have looked pretty quick all weekend, and that sets us up for an exciting looking battle out in front.

Best of the rest in P7 was Lando Norris for McLaren whilst Mick Schumacher is on the hunt for points after getting his Haas car into eighth on the grid ahead of Yuki Tsunoda and Lance Stroll, whose Aston Martin was stricken with a mechanical fault that stopped him competing in Q3.

On row six are French pair, and potential 2023 team-mates depending on who you believe, Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon ahead of Fernando Alonso and Zhou Guanyu.

Alex Albon will start the race from P15 ahead of Valtteri Bottas in P16. Daniel Ricciardo's struggles continue with him set to start from 17th on the grid whilst Kevin Magnussen, Sebastian Vettel and Nicholas Latifi complete the line up for tomorrow.
