Lewis Hamilton is yet to go a full season in his Formula One career without a win, but time is running out this year to fix that.

A late Safety Car at the Dutch GP handed the advantage to Hamilton for Mercedes’ first race win of the season, but the team uncharacteristically hampered him big time.

First of all, George Russell called to be put on the soft tyres, which happened, meaning Lewis had no protection to Verstappen on the race restart, effectively gifting the home favourite the win, consigning the Brit to have to settle for a podium.

However, after being one of the only drivers on the medium compound instead of the fastest, softs, Russell then got the overtake done on Hamilton and so did Charles Leclerc.

As you can imagine, Hamilton was absolutely fuming with what unfolded after he looked in a great position to get the win and ultimately missed out on a podium, finishing fourth.

So it was no surprise to see Hamilton on the team radio making his feelings known to the team. First of all he said: “That was the biggest **** up.”

But he wasn’t done there, he then ranted at his team further, conveying just how seething he was: ”I can’t believe you s****d me like that. I can’t describe how p****d I am.”

To add insult to injury for Hamilton, his team have hampered him and helped his teammate. Whilst Hamilton is a team player and will love to see his team have another P2 in the bag, his own fortunes will obviously have him irate.

Given the problems Mercedes have had with the W13, Hamilton has run with experimental setups all season to try and help the team solve the issue, meaning Russell had a consistent car to adapt to, making his transition from a back of the gird team to the eight-time consecutive Constructors' Champions as seamless as possible.

That was obviously selfless from Hamilton, who is one of the greatest drivers we’ve seen, taking experimental setups so the pressure isn’t on his new teammate, because if Russell was further back with experimental cars then questions would be asked if he was ready.

It’ll certainly feel like a huge kick in the teeth to Hamilton after all his sacrifices this season. Ultimately, a decision from the pit wall meant his fortunes flipped from him having a solid chance of the race win to seeing him not even being on the podium, finishing in P4.

After the race, Bono, Hamilton's Race Engineer said: "Ok, sorry about that Lewis, was looking good but yep, we'll sit down and review decisions that we made there."

Toto Wolff followed that up with: "Yeah Lewis, sorry it didn't work out. We did what we discussed in the morning, we took a risk and it didn't work out, but let's discuss between us in the office."

Hamilton then responded to those comments, adding: "To all the mechanics, fantastic job today, the best pit stops we've had all year so thank you for the continued efforts. Let's keep pushing, we've still got points today."

“Yeah thanks, Lewis. Appreciate the message,” was the response from Bono, as the seven-time world champion made his frustrations known again by thanking just the mechanics.
