Ciryl Gane has given his thoughts on a possible meeting with Jon Jones when the veteran returns at heavyweight.

Last Saturday night at UFC Paris, Ciryl Gane got himself back in the win column in a big way with a TKO finish over Tai Tuivasa. The Frenchman didn’t have it all his own way, though, as he had to battle through some real adversity after being dropped by ‘Bam Bam’ in the second round.

Alas, the quality of ‘Bon Gamin’ was able to shine through eventually as he took control of proceedings and ultimately finished his Australian foe.

The result came just over seven months after Gane lost a narrow decision to Francis Ngannou at UFC 270 in his attempt to capture the UFC heavyweight championship.

His immediate future is uncertain but based on the following remarks, he wouldn’t be opposed to a meeting with the one and only Jon Jones.

“To have Jon Jones in this division is going to put some more light, [and] the division is going to shine a little bit more and more,” Gane said on the UFC post-fight show. “That’s why I’m so happy to have this guy in this division.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen exactly. People talk about Stipe [Miocic] against Jones, but I’m here. I’m here. I don’t have a good answer [about who is next] – maybe Jon Jones for the hype, for the money.”

“I think maybe Stipe or Jones,” Gane said. “I’m sorry, bro, if I have a choice, it’s not going to be [Curtis] Blaydes. This is not smart.”

Jon’s big comeback

The return of Jon Jones has been a massive talking point in MMA across the last few years and now, it finally seems as if we’re edging closer and closer to it becoming a reality.

Gane is definitely a plausible opponent for the former light heavyweight king upon return but based on recent reports, the most likely contender to tackle ‘Bones’ is going to be Stipe Miocic.

The UFC’s final PPV card of the year in December feels like a good target date but in reality, it all comes down to whether or not Jon feels like he’s ready.
