Leeds United winger Dan James has played his last game for the club, believes journalist Dean Jones.

The Welshman is currently on loan at Fulham, and Jones cannot see any way back for him at Elland Road.

What is the latest news involving James?

James recently joined Fulham on a temporary deal, with Leeds manager Jesse Marsch stating that he had to let someone go on deadline day in order to bring someone else in.

"It was clear that if we were going to be able to add something, then we needed to move something - and I hate speaking in that way about it because I love Dan James and he's an incredible person," Marsch told the BBC.

"He always gives everything to the group, but we were trying to work out how to get the balance right. Dan was garnering the most interest and doing this was the only way to create flexibility to get in the striker we felt we needed."

James only arrived at Elland Road last year after Leeds struck a £25m deal with rivals Manchester United for his signature, but it appears that his career at the Yorkshire club could already be over.

What has Jones said about James' Leeds future?

Jones doubts James will return to Leeds and thinks his brief spell at the Premier League outfit is now done.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider said: "This isn't looking for him to improve. This is looking to get him out of the squad, so I think Dan James and Leeds, that story seems to be over now."

Should Leeds have kept James around?

James is definitely a useful player to have in your squad; his electric pace on the counter-attack can be a weapon.

"He’s evolved over the last few months. He’s gone from playing wide left to a centre-forward in a 3-5-2. The formation has changed for him and his game’s got to adapt slightly," Wales manager Robert Page said earlier this year (via The Independent) when discussing James.

“But he’s a talented footballer with unbelievable pace, he can score goals and he’s creating chances."

It seems, though, that he had to be sacrificed to facilitate Wilfried Gnonto's deadline day arrival from FC Zurich. Striker has been a problem position for Leeds for a while now, largely because of Patrick Bamford's injury woes, and while James can play there, it is not his natural position. So ditching him for Gnonto does make some sense.
