Nate Diaz has suggested that a trilogy fight between himself and Conor McGregor will happen in the future.

When we talk about some of the most historic rivalries in the history of mixed martial arts, Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz has to be featured in the conversation.

From strange bedfellows to all-time great enemies, Diaz and McGregor battled each other twice back in 2016 with both contests being viewed as absolute classics - for very different reasons.

At UFC 196, Diaz stepped in on short notice and shocked the world by submitting McGregor to hand him his first loss in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Then, later that same year, Conor got his revenge in the form of a five-round war that still holds up as one of the best fights of the last decade or so.

The two have danced around one another ever since then without actually getting around to booking a third meeting, and with Diaz approaching the end of his UFC contract, many fans had given up hope.

However, in a recent interview, the Stockton king has led us to believe that there could be a chance after all.

“The timing isn’t on right now but we’ll worry about that later, for sure. It’s gonna happen at some point, but not now.

“Yeah [the trilogy will happen]. He needs to get back and do what he’s gotta do, whatever that is. Whenever that is. We’re gonna match up when we’re gonna match up, we ain’t going nowhere.”

Nate’s swansong?

Nate Diaz is heading into one of the toughest tests of his career this weekend as he prepares to battle Khamzat Chimaev in the main event of UFC 279.

With this fight reportedly being the last one on his current contract with the promotion, the expectation is that he’ll be riding off into the sunset to launch Real Fight, Inc.

Of course, Diaz isn’t the sort of fighter you can underestimate, which is why we think it’s probably a good idea to keep an open mind about what the future holds for him both in and outside of this great sport.
