Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Nunes is a 'monster' and his Molineux arrival has 'gone under the radar', according to Midlands journalist Josh Holland.

Head coach Bruno Lage was allowed to spend more than £120million on bolstering his squad during the summer transfer window and Nunes was among those to come through the door.

What's the latest news involving Nunes?

Wolves smashed their record transfer fee by forking out an initial £38million, which could rise to £42.2million, to tempt Nunes away from Portuguese giants Sporting.

Chairman Jeff Shi admitted that he was 'thrilled' to sign a star who is 'widely regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in world football'.

Nunes has penned a five-year contract after heading to the Premier League for the first time in his career and he has already become a key component in Wolves' midfield.

The 24-year-old has made five appearances since making the switch to Molineux and grabbed his first assist at the weekend.

That contribution was crucial as the 1-0 win over Southampton allowed Wolves to bag their first Premier League victory since April.

What has Josh Holland said about Nunes?

Holland believes Nunes will prove to be a hit at Wolves and a switch to a Premier League rival could be on the cards in a matter of years.

The journalist told GIVEMESPORT: "I don't think Joao Moutinho is going to start that many games, so Nunes is almost a perfect replacement.

"He showed on his debut against Spurs that, after Wolves sold Morgan Gibbs-White and brought in Nunes, he could do more than a job sitting in that number 10 role.

"I know that a lot of people have looked at his highlights and videos from when he was at Sporting. He is a monster.

"He was giving Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur a difficult time in his first game in England and I think that signing has gone under the radar a bit.

"I think it'll be a year or two until teams like Liverpool or Spurs come in for him."

Did Wolves face competition for Nunes' services?

West Ham United boss David Moyes confirmed the east Londoners were turned down by Nunes after heading to the negotiating table with Sporting, where he made 101 appearances.

Liverpool also had an interest in the central midfielder before deciding to pull out of the race for his signature.

Nunes - an eight-cap Portugal international - was reportedly on the radar of many leading clubs across Europe as well, so Wolves had to fight for the former Estoril man.
