Footage has emerged of the Dallas Cowboys’ new signing Jason Peters, and it might not endear him all that well to his new fanbase.

The Dallas Cowboys are certainly going through a transition phase right now as an organisation, with this now being head coach Mike McCarthy’s 3rd year in charge of the team, and within that team, there are a couple of position groups that are getting their own special attention.

The wide receivers for instance is one of them, as the team shifted away Amari Cooper this offseason, replacing him with former Pittsburgh Steelers wideout James Washington to compliment 2020 1st round pick CeeDee Lamb. The defence is getting attention too, with the team using their 2nd round pick in 2020 on Trevon Diggs who made 1st-Team All-Pro last year, as did 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year Micah Parsons, who the Cowboys used their 1st pick in the 2021 Draft on.

But perhaps the biggest change that’s happened over the years has been the offensive line, who were the foundation of the team from the middle of the 2010s. Tyron Smith, La'el Collins, Travis Frederick, Zack Martin, Doug Free and Jonathan Cooper became one of the best in the business during that timespan.

But as they enter the 2022 season, only one of them is in a fit state to play, that being Zack Martin, with the others either traded away, retired, or in the case of Smith, injured.

Sending for the cavalry

In order to keep the line as solid as possible, the Cowboys have reached out to one of the elder statesmen of the league to help them out. That man is 40-year-old Jason Peters, formerly of the Cowboy’s division rivals in the form of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Peters has been in the NFL since the 2004 season when he came into the league undrafted as a tight end, before eventually moving to tackle and putting together a career with the Eagles that could put him on course for the Hall Of Fame.

He spent last season with the Chicago Bears where despite his age he was able to start 15 of 17 games, and now the Cowboys will be hoping that he can bring some stability to the line and protect quarterback Dak Prescott as they look to make a Super Bowl run.

But whilst the organisation might be happy to get him on board, the fans might be a little hesitant to accept him after footage that has re-emerged.

What does the footage say?

A clip on social media has been dug up by Pro Football Talk that shows Peters in his Eagles days in 2018 talking about the Cowboys and more importantly their ‘bandwagon’ fans after their resurgence in 2016:

Now whether or not these were his ‘true’ feelings or if he was just trying to placate to the Eagles crowd and playing into the rivalry, we may never know, but it will be interesting to see if Cowboys fans are willing to forgive him for what he said.

Perhaps it will all come down to how well he plays on the field.
