Mikaela Mayer may not like Alycia Baumgardner as a person, but that doesn't mean that she has no respect for her as a fighter.

Mayer, 32, faces Baumgardner, 28, on Saturday in the co-main event of Claressa Shields' undisputed clash with Savannah Marshall on a historic night for women's boxing.

The event is set to take place in The O2 Arena in London.

Both women have world titles hanging around their waists, but Mayer expects Baumgardner's "one-dimensional" style to cost her.

"She's a good fighter, I'm not going to say she's not a good fighter," Mayer told GiveMeSport.com when asked about her upcoming opponent. "She's a good fighter, she does what she does well. To me, she's a boxer counter-puncher, right?

"So she needs to be set, she wants to try and keep that perfect space and counter you and catch you with that big right hand, but I know how to fight counter punchers. I'm not going to tell you how but there's a way to beat them because they're one-dimensional.

"I have a very, very high work rate, very high punch count, very good accuracy, and I plan on using those attributes to beat her. I just feel like I'm going to overwhelm her.

Mikaela Mayer says she plans to drag Alycia Baumgardner "into deep waters"

"My style is very aggressive and I know that I do sometimes get hit but when I get hit I come back with vengeance and rise to the occasion.

"We don't know what happens when she gets hit. From what I've seen she sort of crumbles. So we'll see if she can swim in deep waters."

With that being said that doesn't mean that Mayer takes too kindly to Baumgardner's latest attempts to get under her skin.

"I am going to show this girl what a real boxer looks like," Mayer said of Baumgardner. "And I'm talking about a real well-rounded complete boxer.

"She keeps saying that I'm not s**t, that I pitty pat and that I fight like an amateur. I'm just ready to shut her up. I'm ready to show that she's a one-dimensional fighter, that if she doesn't land a lucky right hand on me, she's just going to crumble."

Mikaela Mayer and Alycia Baumgardner will co-main event Claressa Shields vs Savannah Marshall in London on Saturday

Baumgardner is known for her first starts, where four of her last five finishes have come in the first round. But Mayer is confident that she has the cardio to take control of the fight.

She added: "In the meantime, I want to prove everyone wrong and show the world that I'm just levels above and that I'm one of the most versatile fighters out there, because I really believe that I am one of the most versatile fighters out there.

"So I'm going to take her into deep waters. We're going to go into deep waters for sure. Like I said last time she got taken into deep waters she crumbled so we'll see if she's been there in training."

And Mayer was left highly amused after she found out that Baumgardner had tried to set up camp in Colorado Springs.

"She didn't just pay a visit," she revealed. "She moved her camp to my city. She tried to get access to the Olympic Training Centre.

"They were like, 'No, obviously we're team Mikaela'. I'm their Olympian. She never even made the national team.

"And then the gym that I train at, Triple Threat, I heard they got a call that she wanted to do her camp there, and they were like 'No'.

"So I don't know, she ended up going somewhere in Denver to do her thing but that just shows like to me that she's still figuring out what a camp looks like to her. She's with a new coach and in a new city like she's still figuring that out. And so I'm like okay once again that's why I feel like you're levels below me.

"I've had the same team since I turned pro, I know what works, and you're still figuring it out."
