Manchester United summer signing Antony is the "perfect fit" for Erik ten Hag's side, believes journalist Dean Jones.

The Brazilian has made an instant impact at Old Trafford, scoring on his debut in United's recent 3-1 win against Arsenal.

Why did United sign Antony?

Following his arrival at United, Ten Hag wanted to bring in a new attacker and Antony is obviously someone he knows very well.

The two worked with each other at Ajax, so it was hardly a shock to see the Dutchman target the winger after getting the United job.

Getting Antony out of the Johan Cruyff Arena was not a cheap operation, though, with the Manchester club paying £86m to acquire his services.

The 22-year-old is also thought to be on a £200,000-a-week contract, but he has already started to pay that and his transfer fee back after netting against Arsenal.

What has Jones said about Antony?

Jones thinks Antony is the sort of player United fans want to see at their football club.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider said: "They want to see someone with a bit of a belief, even a bit of ego, which I think Antony's got as well. I think he's the perfect fit and the perfect lift for this team."

What is Antony's best attribute?

While Antony was able to find the back of the net against Mikel Arteta's side last weekend, he was not famous in the Eredivisie for his finishing.

In total, he scored 24 goals in 82 games for the Dutch side, making United's decision to fork out over £80m on him a questionable one. That being said, Antony still has plenty of strengths, including his skill in one-v-one situations.

Last November, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor described his ability to beat defenders as "phenomenal" and labelled him a "real gem".

Over the last year, Antony has also ranked in the 97th percentile for progressive carries, the 89th for touches in the penalty area and the 99th for progressive passes received among his positional peers (via FBref), so it is clear to see that he is a very positive attacker.

Does the above mean that the former Ajax man is worth £86m? No. You cannot help but feel that United definitely overpaid for his signature. But if he can continue scoring against the Red Devils' top six rivals, the Old Trafford faithful will not care one bit.
