Juan Manuel Marquez has predicted Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez will knock out Gennady Golovkin when they meet in their trilogy fight later this month.

Canelo and Golovkin face off for a third time in a hotly anticipated rematch at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 17.

Their first fight ended in a controversial draw at the same venue a few years ago, while the second bout saw the Mexican clinch a highly contentious victory.

Canelo is the favourite to beat Golovkin having moved one-nil up in their series in September 2018.

But he was second best last time out as Dmitry Bivol outclassed him, leaving some to question where he is currently at right now.

However Marquez has stated that he fully expects his fellow countryman to have his hand raised as the winner when he meets the two-time unified world champion inside the ring, and has even let it be known of how he will finish the contest.

"It's motivating for Canelo to have lost to Bivol, because another defeat for a fighter like him would not be good," Marquez told Marca.

Canelo

Juan Manuel Marquez has made his prediction for Canelo's trilogy with Gennady Golovkin

"In the second fight with Golovkin he showed that he can beat him in the center of the ring, in the second fight he deciphered his style and he's going to beat him.

"By speed, counter punches and combinations, so he's not going to withstand the onslaught of the Mexican.

"Canelo is going to win by knockout."

It comes after Canelo vowed to make Golovkin pay for everything he has said about him in the past.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: "It's personal because he talked a lot of things about me all these years, so that's why it's personal for me.

"When he's in front of me, he doesn't say anything - 'I respect him, I respect his career and this and this' - but what about what you've been saying in interviews and in other places?

"I think I'm going to end him before the 12th round. I'm going to put all my boxing skills, all my experience in boxing to get this done.

"I am a more dangerous fighter right now because of my loss. I'm just different right now since the last fight. I am more mature, stronger, and more confident.

"I want to try again [at light-heavyweight]. Right now, I'm 100% focused on Golovkin and then that's what I'm looking to do next year in May."
