Tottenham could have sprung a surprise and beaten Manchester City on Saturday prior to the postponement, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Despite their unbeaten start to the season, Antonio Conte's team would have travelled to the Etihad Stadium as underdogs to come away with a victory, although Brown reckoned they could have still got a result.

What's the latest news involving Tottenham?

Spurs continued their impressive opening month of the season by getting their Champions League group stage campaign off to the perfect start against Marseille on Wednesday.

They were far from at their best against the Ligue 1 outfit but came up trumps thanks to two Richarlison headers in the final 15 minutes, which stretched their unbeaten run to 13 games in all competitions.

But Tottenham will have to play far better if they want to away keep their run going, especially against a City side who have scored 24 goals in just seven games this season and have Erling Haaland in their side.

What did Brown say about Tottenham?

Despite being wary of the threat that Pep Guardiola's side posed, Brown reckoned that Tottenham could still have come up trumps.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "The key to the game would have been whether Spurs could keep Haaland and City's attacking riches under control because I'm pretty sure Spurs would've done them some damage and they would've scored.

"So, they had every chance of beating City; I wouldn't have ruled it out at all."

Do Tottenham have a good record against Manchester City?

City might have won the Premier League in four of the last five years, but Tottenham have generally had their number for much of that period.

Guardiola has lost six times to Spurs as City manager, five of which have come in the league while his City side were also famously dumped out of the Champions League back in 2018-2019.

Two of those defeats came last season as Tottenham won 1-0 in north London on the opening day before claiming a stunning 3-2 victory at the Etihad Stadium back in February thanks to Harry Kane's injury-time header.

But City appear to have taken their game to another level following the addition of Haaland, so Spurs would have had to play far better than they have done for much of this season if they wanted to continue their hold over the reigning champions.
