Chelsea duo Kai Havertz and Mason Mount need to improve, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Both players have made slow starts to the season, and Brown wants to see them do more under their new manager.

How are Havertz and Mount performing right now?

Havertz and Mount will be disappointed with some of their performances during this early part of the campaign.

While the former was able to score the winner in their last league outing, a 2-1 win over London rivals West Ham, it is his only goal of the season so far.

As for the latter, he has failed to register at all and has not managed to produce a single assist either.

With a combined CIES Football Observatory value of £183m, Graham Potter, who has now replaced Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea manager, will be expecting much more from Havertz and Mount.

What has Brown said about Havertz, Mount and Chelsea?

While Brown has admitted that Havertz and Mount are key to Chelsea, the journalist feels that they need to up their game.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: "The problem with Havertz and Mount is they're both absolutely key to what Chelsea do and the manager knows that.

"But in terms of their raw stats in terms of goals and assists, neither of them have ever been totally prolific, really. I think there's massive room for improvement in each of them."

What were Havertz and Mount's stats like last season?

As an attacker, Havertz definitely would have liked to have scored more goals. In 29 Premier League appearances, he registered just eight times.

His assist numbers were hardly amazing either, with the German recording less than five in the English top flight.

Mount, on the other hand, fared much better, setting up his team-mates on 10 occasions in the league. He also scored 11 times, so the England international was actually quite productive last season.

Still, if Chelsea want to close the gap with Manchester City and Liverpool, then as Brown mentioned, they probably need their attackers to be more prolific.

While they were able to score 76 goals under Thomas Tuchel last season, both City (99) and Liverpool (94) managed to register more (via WhoScored). To get to that level, they need Havertz and Mount to do more.

The arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a natural finisher, could also help, but it remains to be seen what exactly are the plans for him following Tuchel's dismissal.
