Everton signing Neal Maupay has similar qualities to Richarlison, believes journalist Paul Brown.

The striker joined the Merseyside club from Brighton in a £15m deal during the summer transfer window, and Brown thinks he could become an important player for them.

Why did Everton sign Maupay?

Manager Frank Lampard definitely needed to bring a new forward to Goodison Park.

Richarlison recently left for Tottenham after they struck a £60m agreement with Everton to sign the Brazilian, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been struggling to stay fit.

The above is why the Toffees had to recruit another No.9 like Maupay, who scored 27 goals during his time at Brighton.

While he was not the most prolific striker during his time on the south coast, registering eight times in 32 league outings last term, he gives Lampard another option.

What has Brown said about Maupay and Everton?

Brown has compared Maupay to Richarlison and thinks he will prove to be an important addition to Everton's squad.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "I think we'll see goals from Maupay and he'll be an important signing for them. I think he gives them a lot of what they lost when Richarlison left, very similar qualities, and I don't think it's a bad signing at all."

Can Maupay help keep Everton out of a relegation battle this season?

Everton were close to being relegated last term, finishing just four points above the drop zone.

Their squad looks much stronger now, however, despite watching Richarlison depart for Tottenham.

Maupay brings Premier League experience and should add more goals to their attack, while the Toffees have also done a good job strengthening in other areas.

The likes of James Tarkowski and Conor Coady, who know this division very well, too, have given the Merseyside outfit a massive boost in defence. The duo, of course, recently played their part in the team keeping a clean sheet against rivals Liverpool at Goodison Park.

Ultimately, with the likes of Maupay, Tarkowski, Coady and their other summer additions, it would be disappointing if Everton found themselves in another relegation battle.

The above does not mean the Toffees should be around the top six, battling for a place in the Champions League, Europa League or Europa Conference League. However, when you look at the quality of their squad and their recent recruitments, they should not be fighting for their lives again.
