NBA 2K23 is coming later this week, on September 9th, 2022, and we now have confirmation of the size of the game.

Those who have pre-ordered the game can pre-load it on their consoles, and it has a truly whopping install size that might require players to clear some space!

The new game has a number of features that are new to the franchise, perhaps explaining exactly why the install size is so large.

Not only is there a Michael Jordan-themed campaign mode, there are also a variety of commentary teams for Franchise mode, as you move through the eras within the game.

Still, prepare for something of a shock as you find out just how large NBA 2K23’s install size really is!

NBA 2K23 Install Size Revealed

NBA 2K23

The PS5 version of the game clocks in at 143GB in size.

That’s not a typo, that’s the genuine size of 2K’s latest franchise instalment.

Previous NBA 2K releases have usually been around 100GB in size but have rarely exceeded it, as they have done in 2K23.

It’s a truly staggering number, although it is not the highest install size we’ve ever seen.

Best Gaming Tips has previously compiled a list of the largest games by file size, and NBA 2K23 would land in the top 10, although it is nowhere near the top!

  • ARK: Survival Evolved, with all DLC included, comes in at 275GB
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is 231GB

The only other games to top NBA 2K23 are:

  • Quantum Break (178GB)
  • Destiny 2: ShadowKeep (165GB)
  • Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War (165GB)
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (150GB)
  • Final Fantasy XV (150GB)
  • Hitman 2 (149GB)

Some players utilise external storage drives to extend the storage space on their consoles but if you don’t have one of those, you’re likely going to need to delete a game or two to free up space for NBA 2K23.

Still, the game has an immense shelf life and is likely to be played throughout the year, so one has to think it’ll be worth it for anyone who is a big basketball fan.

We’ll be bringing you a review of the game next week, and will keep you updated with all of the latest news around the basketball sim.
