Two of the four pillars of AEW collide on Rampage

AEW Dynamite revealed an eliminator tournament, with the vacant AEW World Championship being the prize for the winner. The tournament will see two of AEW’s four pillars collide in a quarter-finals match on Rampage.

The AEW World Championship was announced as vacant after a crazy weekend for All Elite Wrestling and the injury of CM Punk as well as the former AEW World Champions’ recent drama after the ALL OUT post-show media scrum with a reported confrontation with AEW’s EVP’s Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks.

Tony Khan opened the show by vacating the AEW World Championship and the AEW Trios Championships, which were held by the four main stars caught up in the drama.

Khan revealed that the AEW World Championship would be determined in an eliminator tournament where the bracket contains six of AEW’s top stars.

The AEW wrestlers confirmed are former AEW World Champions Hangman Adam Page, Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho, as well as former TNT Champions Darby Allin and Sammy Guevara.

The tournament kicked off on Dynamite with Bryan Danielson defeating old rival Hangman Page in an incredibly physical contest. Danielson will go on to face Chris Jericho in an ALL OUT rematch next week on Dynamite in the semi-finals.

In the other half of the bracket, Jon Moxley will take on one of AEW’s four pillars as Sammy Guevara takes on an old friend and rival, Darby Allin.

Allin and Guevara both go into this tournament as underdogs, but they are certainly no strangers to one another, and they have even collided previously in an eliminator tournament back in 2020 when both men went one-on-one in the quarter-finals of the TNT Championship tournament with Darby Allin emerging the victor.

Guevara has the opportunity to knock off an old rival and make the semi-finals of the eliminator tournament a Jericho Appreciation Society versus Blackpool Combat Club takeover.

The winner of this quarter-finals match will go on to face Jon Moxley in the semi-finals next week on AEW Rampage with the winner facing the winner of Danielson versus Jericho at AEW Grand Slam on September 21st at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

You can watch Sammy Guevara vs Darby Allin and AEW internationally on FITE TV.
