Graham Potter has been announced as Chelsea's new manager.

The Englishman has signed a five-year deal and has replaced Thomas Tuchel, who lost his job after Chelsea's Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday evening.

Potter said in a statement on Chelsea's official website: "I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea FC, this fantastic football club. I am very excited to partner with Chelsea’s new ownership group and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and to develop a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of.

"I would also like to place my sincere thanks to Brighton & Hove Albion for allowing me this opportunity and in particular Tony Bloom and all the players, staff and supporters for their continued support during my time at the club."

Following Potter's appointment, we've ranked Chelsea's first-team squad into six categories ranging from 'World-class' to 'Time to sell'.

World-class

Reece James

We think a player must be among the world's three best players in their position to be considered world-class.

Thus, we think only one Chelsea player fits the criteria: Reece James.

The 22-year-old is indisputably one of the best right-backs in world football and is arguably Chelsea's most important player.

Elite

Mateo Kovacic

Raheem Sterling

N'Golo Kante

Thiago Silva

Kovacic has been vital for Chelsea over the past few years. The Croatian has struggled with injury to start the season. The fact the Blues have struggled in his absence shows how important he is.

Sterling has been playing at an elite level for a while and it now Chelsea's most influential attacker following his summer move.

Kante and Silva are perhaps past their very best and were once both world-class, but are still playing at a very high level.

First team quality

Ben Chilwell

Edouard Mendy

Kalidou Koulibaly

Wesley Fofana

Kai Havertz

Wesley Fofana

Marc Cucurella

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Chilwell would have been put in 'elite' had he not suffered so much from injuries in the past year.

Chelsea's new summer signings Koulibaly, Fofana, Cucurella and Aubameyang should all play a big role for the rest of this season and beyond.

Good squad player

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Cesar Azpilicueta

Denis Zakaria

Jorginho

Kepa Arrizabalaga

Marcus Bettinelli

Trevoh Chalobah

These seven players are all good squad players but don't have the quality needed to start for Chelsea week-in, week-out.

Among those that feature in this category is Azpilicueta.

Chelsea's influential captain is now 33 and is on the decline, but performs to a decent level whenever called upon.

Needs to go on loan

Conor Gallagher

Armado Broja

Gallagher has struggled at the start of the season. He could perhaps do with another loan before establishing himself in Chelsea's first team.

The same applies for Broja. The 20-year-old has bags of potential but needs to develop further before becoming a regular starter for Chelsea.

Time to sell

Hakim Ziyech

Christian Pulisic

Ziyech and Pulisic have not been playing to the standard expected at Chelsea for a while.

Of course, there is a chance they could thrive under new management.

But, based on their performances in the past year or so, they could well be shown the door in January.
