Mark Hunt has admitted that he was sat at home “eating cheesecakes and pies” when he agreed to fight Sonny Bill Williams.

The 5ft 10in UFC legend will fight the New Zealand rugby union icon in the boxing ring on November 5.

Hall, 48, hasn’t set foot inside the ring since his December 2020 bout with Paul Gallen, which he lost via decision.

But he revealed that he decided to accept the offer to fight Williams to help him lose some weight.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Hunt said: “I’m pretty s**t at predictions, to be honest.

“I didn’t know it was eight rounds, but hey – I’m always up for a challenge.

“I was sitting on my couch eating cheesecakes and pies and I was putting on a little weight when I got the call. This gives me the chance to get back to being healthy again, and Sonny is no slouch.

“If he wants my name then he’s got to earn it. I still love competing. Always have.

“I’m a fighter at heart. I’m always up for the challenge and I will give it 100 per cent.”

Unfortunately that means that he has had to stop eating junk food now for the time being at least.

“I had to give it up, of course,” he said.

“I’m a fan of a lot of bad foods, but I’ve had to give it up for this.

“He’s been hanging out with Tyson [Fury] and Joe [Parker] – it doesn’t get much better than that.

“I’m glad Sonny chose me to get some legitimacy, he gets full credit for that.”

Williams meanwhile knows exactly what Hunt brings to the table having watching him fight for many years.

‘Of course I’m concerned about his power, I’m not gonna lie,” he added.

“But that’s why it’s exciting. That’s why it will be a great night. It will be a battle of who can implement their own styles.

“I’m undefeated in the boxing ring. When we get in there, there’ll be no niceties. He’ll be looking to knock me out and I’ll be trying to do the same.

“It’s a mouthwatering contest and I’m excited for the challenge. I’ll be in there to win.”
