Ahead of the postponed title match between Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall, we have taken a look at some of the biggest rivalries in boxing history.

The two middleweight fighters have been locked in a long-standing feud that will come to a head when they headline Britain's first ever televised all-women's professional boxing card.

The clash has been described as "the most anticipated women's fight of all time."

Shields vs Marshall has been rescheduled to October 15th following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The postponement means tensions between the fighters will continue to brew before the two finally lock horns at the O2 Arena next month.

Here is GiveMeSport's list of 15 of the most iconic boxing rivalries off all-time.

Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier

The mother of all rivalries that gave the world The Fight of the Century, Super Fight II, and Thrilla in Manila.

With one win apiece from the first two fights, Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier boxed one last time in what is regarded as the biggest fight in history, with Ali reigning supreme.

Arturo Gatti vs Micky Ward

Another legendary boxing trilogy that captured the entire world — Arturo Gatti vs Micky Ward was as brutal as it was inspiring.

The two went from fierce in-ring rivals, to striking a trainer-fighter relationship and close friendship.

Following Gatti's death, Ward said: "A big part of me is gone. Anytime you go 30 rounds with a guy, try to kill each other, and have the most respect for each other, no one understands that, but guys who have been to war understand it."

Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield

After suffering one of the biggest upsets boxing has ever seen, Mike Tyson did something that will never be forgotten.

The infamous 'Bite Fight,' ranked second in The Ring Magazine's dirtiest fights of all time list.

Tyson bit off part of Holyfield's ear in a rematch fuelled by rage and revenge. He is still criticised to this day for the historic incident in 1997.

Sugar Ray Robinson vs Jake LaMotta

The sixth and final fight of this thrilling rivalry ended with 'The St Valentine's Day Massacre' of 1951.

After 13 rounds, LaMotta was left unable to defend himself after series of brutal punches from Robinson. The Raging Bull, clinging to both the ropes and his pride, refused to go down and instead took the beating until the fight was stopped.

Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather Jr.

After his second retirement, Floyd Mayweather Jr. stated only a fight against UFC's Conor McGregor would tempt him back into the ring.

The iconic crossover match lasted ten rounds and extended Money's undefeated win streak to 50 victories.

The fight recorded the second highest pay-per-view purchase rate in history, bringing in a mammoth 4.3 million.

Laila Ali vs Jacqui Frazier

This was certainly not a particularly personal rivalry, but it makes the list based on everything this match stood for.

The daughters of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier reignited the legendary rivalry in a match nicknamed Ali-Frazier IV — a hat tip to their fathers' historic trilogy.

Ali and Frazier became the first women to headline a pay-per-view boxing card. Ali won the milestone fight by majority decision.

Willie Pep vs Sandy Saddler

Sandy Saddler is one of the roughest fighters the world has ever seen, while Willie Pep is regarded as the most accomplished defensive boxer of all time.

The two met four times and all hell broke loose in a manner of blood and aggression. Their final fight was ranked sixth in The Ring Magazine's list of the dirtiest fights of all time.

Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez

Easily regarded as one of, if not the greatest rivalry of the 21st century.

Pacquiao and Marquez faced off in four extremely competitive matches in a rich and explosive history between the two inside the ring.

Sam Langford vs Harry Wills

Sam Langford and Harry Wills go down in history as two of the most talented fighters to never win a world title.

Both boxers were denied the opportunity to compete for the championship due to the colour of their skin, so their careers, despite being so iconic, were extremely limited.

Langford and Wills met 22 times in total, with their final fight coming in 1915.

Evander Holyfield vs Riddick Bowe

A trilogy of classic heavyweight fights that will live long in the memory of any boxing fan.

The Holyfield vs Bowe rivalry was nothing short of a thrilling saga that had supporters on the edge of their seats as the championship belts changed hands.

Erik Morales vs Marco Antonio Barrera

Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera were Mexico's biggest boxing stars and boy, did they provide entertainment for their diehard fans.

After two all-action fights, Barrera won the rubber match to claim the super featherweight championship and end their electrifying feud in 2004.

Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano

A rivalry that will go down in history based on the magnitude of the match alone.

While Taylor and Serrano are by no means enemies, becoming the first women in history to headline Madison Square Garden is a milestone the world will never forget.

Sugar Ray Leonard vs Roberto Duran

The trilogy between Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran started with victory for the Panamanian, who captured the welterweight title.

However, Duran left the world stunned when he quit during the eighth round of their rematch, allowing Leonard to reclaim his crown.

The rubber match left a lot to be desired as Leonard made easy work of the win but the disappointing finale takes nothing away from the iconic rivalry.

Mike Sweeney vs Danny Cripps

Mike Sweeney and Danny Cripps hold the world record for the most fights held between two boxers.

The two met a mammoth 63 times between 1906 and 1921 — a tally that no other fighters will ever come close to matching.

Claressa Shields vs Savannah Marshall

The war of words between these two iconic fighters has gone on for years.

Both champions, both undefeated in their professional careers so far. But that will all change when they finally meet next month.

Marshall is the only fighter to ever beat Shields — an amateur meeting between the two in 2012 saw The Silent Assassin come out on top.

Now, their grudge match is set to light up London in a history-making occasion.
