Canelo Alvarez is one of the greatest boxers to take to the ring, especially in the modern day era, competing with the likes of Floyd Mayweather. He is gearing up to take on Gennadiy Golovkin in their mammoth trilogy fight this time next week (September 17).

The fact that Canelo is still at the top of his game now is testament to just how good he is and how he has incredible longevity in the sport.

Back in 2013, almost nine years ago to the day, he took on Money Mayweather at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, falling to a majority decision defeat at the hands of the American.

There was controversy in the scoring of the fight...

Mayweather prevailed thanks to a majority decision, with C.J. Ross controversially scoring the fight 114-114 after 12 rounds.

Out of the 86 media scorecards, the average score came in at 119-109 in Mayweather’s favour, signalling just how dominant he’d been during the contest, with only one clear winner in the bout.

Such was the criticism of Ross after the fight, he retired from being a boxing judge, with that bout being the last he would deliver his scorecard for.

Floyd Mayweather takes on Mikuru Asakura on September 25

Both men went into the clash undefeated, Mayweather was 44-0 and Canelo was 42-0-1, so just the draw preventing it from being a 100% record vs 100% record bout.

Victory meant that Mayweather claimed the WBA (Super), WBC and The Ring light middleweight titles in a classic bout.

Despite being one of the greatest boxers to ever step foot in the ring, Mayweather loves to entertain whilst dominating in the ring.

Canelo

Juan Manuel Marquez has made his prediction for Canelo's trilogy with Gennady Golovkin

During the fight with Canelo, he dodged some attempted blows from his opponent, before skipping across the ring and mocking him for his failed attempt.

He hunches over, making himself look bigger with his arms spread out, looking back at where he dodged the punches as if to say ‘come on Canelo, where are your shots.’

You can watch the video of Floyd Mayweather who ‘makes Canelo miss and ten clowns him’ here:

It certainly just goes to show that despite Canelo being an incredibly skilled fighter, not many can compete with Mayweather, in fact, Money is on his own level when it comes to it, not many would dream of taunting in the ring like he did to Canelo back in 2013.
