Jabeur, who is number five in the world rankings, finished as runner-up in her second consecutive Grand Slam tournament.

She reached the final at Wimbledon back in July and by doing so, wrote her name in the history books.

Jabeur became the first Arab or North African player to reach a Grand Slam final during the Open Era.

The 28-year-old put in a valiant shift, and gave every ounce of energy during her second set performance, but ultimately it wasn't enough to match Swiatek on the night.

A history-making year for Jabeur

Although she has fallen short of the mark twice in 2022, this year has been a landmark one for Jabeur.

By becoming the first Arab or North African player to reach a major final, she has inspired so many people and looks certain to continue to break the glass ceiling.

During the Wimbledon final, she won the first set against Elena Rybakina, but fell to a strong comeback from the Kazakhstan star, who secured her first Grand Slam title.

Reaching a second consecutive major final is another huge achievement for Jabeur, and all eyes will be on her to see what she can accomplish in 2023.

Swiatek dominates in 2022

Swiatek has enjoyed an incredible year and is showing no sign of faltering.

After reaching a career-high ranking of world number two in March, she succeeded Ashleigh Barty at the top spot two weeks later following the Australian's retirement.

The Pole became just the fourth woman to win the Sunshine Double after claiming the Indian Wells and Miami Open titles during the spring.

When she returned to Roland-Garros after dropping her title in 2021, Swiatek beat Coco Gauff in the final to reclaim her crown.

This is the first time Swiatek has won the US Open, and now boasts titles on both hard court and clay.
