Matt Riddle has shown off the black eye that he sustained during his match with Seth Rollins at WWE Clash at the Castle.

In what was one of the matches of the night, Riddle went one-on-one with long-time rival Seth Rollins at the big WWE Premium Live Event in Cardiff last weekend.

Rollins may have picked up the win on the night, but Riddle didn't walk out of Wales empty-handed, leaving the Principality Arena with a nasty black eye.

What happened to Matt Riddle at WWE Clash at the Castle?

As noted, in what was the semi-main event slow, Riddle was defeated by Seth Rollins at WWE Clash at the Castle on September 3.

Riddle was left off Monday's episode of Raw, as was Rollins for that matter, so we haven't actually seen the former UFC star since his big loss.

The 36-year-old has now uploaded a selfie onto Twitter, as you can see below, showing the effects of his match with the multi-time WWE Champion.

Riddle revealed on the social media platform that he picked up a rather nasty black eye during his match with Rollins at the show.

Why didn't Seth Rollins v Matt Riddle happen at WWE SummerSlam

The finish at the match at Clash at the Castle, as well as Riddle's tweet, make it seem like this won't be the last time we see the top WWE Superstars go head-to-head.

The match was actually supposed to happen at SummerSlam on July 30, but Triple H made the decision to postpone it as one of his first acts as Head of Creative after being given the role following Vince McMahon's retirement.

Triple H wanted the match to have more heat, according to reports, so made the decision to take it off the card for SummerSlam, allowing another four weeks of build before Clash at the Castle.

Many fans have praised Triple H for the decision, believing that the pair benefitted from having another month to tell their story before sharing the ring for their match.

What is the next chapter in the Riddle and Rollins storyline?

It's widely believed that Riddle and Rollins will both be on Raw tomorrow night, building towards another match between the two.

The next time the pair go head-to-head, it'll more than likely be in a stipulation match at Extreme Rules, which takes place on October 8.

Given that Rollins has been established as one of WWE's top stars for years now, the common feeling amongst fans is that Riddle is going to win the pair's next match, cementing him as another main event player.
